Wellington Regional Leadership Committee

A new regional partnership to enable better outcomes

The Wellington Regional Leadership Committee is a union of councils, iwi and central government in the Wellington-Wairarapa-Horowhenua region.

We’ve partnered together so that we can achieve better shared outcomes for our region…

working together to solve our regional challenges and extend our potential, building communities where we want to live and work.

The Committee is responsible for three key areas: The Regional Growth Framework (spatial planning), regional economic development and regional economic recovery.

The Committee exists to collectively focus our efforts, to embed joined-up, systems-level thinking across our region, for better shared outcomes.

Current Projects

The Wellington Regional Growth Framework

The Committee is responsible for oversight, development and implementation of the Wellington Regional Growth Framework. The Framework is a spatial plan that describes a long-term vision for how the region will grow, change and respond to key urban development challenges and opportunities in a way that gets the best outcomes and maximises the benefits across the region.

Regional Economic Development & Regional Economic Recovery

The Committee is responsible for developing, endorsing and activating a new Regional Economic Development Plan.

The first phase is to identify and collate all existing economic planning documents, and identify their priorities, themes and focus.
The second phase involves working with stakeholders to create a bold plan that will inspire stakeholders and help unlock potential within the region.
