Upcoming Housing Developments in the Region
Mayfair Housing Development in planning stage, Mount Victoria Wellington
26 AUGUST 2024
The Wairarapa-Wellington-Horowhenua Future Development Strategy plans for 99,000 additional homes in the region over the next 30 years. That’s a big number which breaks down to 3,300 homes annually, or 275 per month.
With a region this large it is difficult to maintain an up-to-date view of what housing is planned to be developed, although we do have building consent numbers which show what has already been built (noting that not every consent for a new house results in a new house). You can view building consent data here: WRLC Housing Data.
The Wellington Regional Leadership Committee Secretariat has started to collect publicly available information on housing developments to provide a better overview of known upcoming developments. You can view this on the Regional Dashboard – select ‘new developments announced’ under housing.
The table below shows upcoming housing development in the region. As at the end of August 2024 we have identified a total of six developments with nearly 1,200 homes to be developed amongst them. Key information is:
Development name |
Location | Number of Houses |
Jamaica Rise | Grenada North | 220 |
Moy Estate | Otaki | 137 |
Waikanae North | Next to former SH1 | 410 |
Our Whare Our Fale | Eastern Porirua | 300 |
Tapestry on Vivian Street | 55 Vivian Street | 132 |
Mayfair | Mount Victoria | Not available yet |
TOTAL | 1,199 |
It is great to see the geographical spread and housing mix of these housing developments and know that these will assist in providing some of the 3300 homes required across the region in any one year.
We plan to keep this information on our website up to date when we see developments announced. If you would like your development or a development you are assisting with, added to our information, please email us at hello@wrlc.co.nz.
