Exploring Innovative Solutions to our Housing Crisis

11am Tuesday 12th December 2023

We closed out 2023 with one of our most insightful webinars of the year, with Sam Stubbs, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Simplicity NZ, and David Loveridge, Managing Director of Watson Group, who shared their perspectives on the current and future state of housing in New Zealand.

Sam discussed Simplicity’s new Homes and Income Investment Fund, which aims to provide an alternative to traditional property and fixed income investors, by funding up to 25,000 homes over the long term.

Sam covered:

  • The problem –  Decades of under building in NZ
  • A solution –  Providing reliable funding for building and managing quality long-term rental homes, which can act as a ‘fence at the top of the cliff’ preventing costly health and social problems
  • Simplicity’s Homes and Income Investment Fund – Making money and doing good.

David discussed his views on the philosophy of Watson Group: “to build more than a house but a beautiful life, in the places & communities we live”, and discussed the thesis of his white paper: that affordable housing IS urban infrastructure. David also shared insights into why leisure is, ‘the opposable thumb’ of housing. A must-view for anyone interested in shaping a thriving future for our communities.
